Nearing the final moments of 2013, I am reminded of Rumi’s quote: “If God said, ‘Rumi pay homage to everything that has helped you enter my arms,’ there would not be one experience of my life, not one thought, not one feeling, nor any act, I would not bow to.”
What can I pay homage to?
I pay homage to these things:
My son Lucas’s ability to make me laugh out loud when nothing seems funny.
My friend Barry’s seemingly constant reminder to “put my big girl pants on” when I feel scared to stand up.
The most wonderful sound of my daughter Reeve singing for it can make me cry, make me stop, make me listen, and make me believe.
For those incredibly hard days that reminded me that I’m a survivor.
